When each species is here
They do not all overlap, and that is the first decision of any Canary Islands fishing trip.
Bluefin tuna: March to 5 May, April the best month. Blue marlin: May to November, best odds June to October. White marlin: late October and November. Wahoo: August to December. Dorado: summer into autumn. Amberjack: year-round, best in winter.These windows are a historical reference, not a promise. Migrations shift every year and what actually decides it is fleet reports and the state of the water. If you are coming for one species, tell us when you book and we will tell you straight what the real odds are for those dates.
What is released and what you keep
Billfish are always released: blue marlin, white marlin and spearfish. No exceptions, whatever the size. We fish circle hooks, keep the fish in the water and release it at the side of the boat.Tuna and table fish you can keep, and they leave the boat on ice. What nobody is going to eat, we do not kill: there is no fishing for the photograph here.
This is not a marketing position. A live marlin bites again another year. A dead one is worth nothing to anybody.

Why we plan the day around the species, not the other way round
The first decision of any trip is which fish we are after, because it changes everything downstream: where we go, how fast we travel, what we tow and what time we leave the dock. A bigeye day and a dorado day have almost nothing in common.
